The Brunswick Housing Authority is accepting applications for its Section 8 Family Self Sufficiency (FSS) waiting list.
The FSS program allows participants to have increases in rent deposited into an Escrow Account that the BHA maintains for the 5 year FSS contract. As a household’s rent increases, client payments are still made to the landlord by the client, however, the BHA credits that difference to the household’s Escrow Account. As the family meets its goals during the 5 year contract, the balance continues to grow and upon graduation, the family is given the amount in its account. In order for a family to successfully graduate, the household must have met its goals and cannot be receiving TANF or any other welfare payments at the end of the 5 year contract.
If the family is terminated from the S8 program or the FSS program and does not graduate, the BHA absorbs any funds in that household’s Escrow Account.
To be eligible for this program you must be an active S8 participant whose household is willing to commit to seeking and maintaining employment and other betterments such as advanced education, obtaining transportation, etc.
If you are interested in participating in this program please fill out the attached questionnaire and return it to your Case Worker.
